Greetings!

I am Stephanie Etienne. I am a Certified Nurse Midwife based in Baltimore, Maryland. I came to midwifery after years in public health research, drug policy reform advocacy and social justice nonprofit program management. My passion for reproductive justice was born from my work with the Community Birthing Project, a radical doula collective based in New York City. I later earned my nursing and midwifery degrees from Columbia University. I am a member of the American College of Nurse Midwives and the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetrics and Neonatal Nurses.

Bridge Midwifery is a homecoming after many years in hospital- based midwifery practices. I developed this practice to reach people on their terms. I strongly believe that the relationship between a person and their health care provider can be powerful, radical and lifelong.

Midwifery has also taken me beyond individual and family-centered care. I am co-directing, Listen to Me, a documentary on the experience of Black women in the U.S. maternal health system. I work with several organizations dedicated to reducing maternal and infant mortality in the African Diaspora including the National Association to Advance Black Birth (NAABB) and the Foundation for the Advancement of Haitian Midwives (FAHM). I am also a partner at The Bloom Collective, a Baltimore-based community space dedicated to reproductive justice and supporting pregnancy and early parenting.

In addition to being a midwife, I love being a mother, partner, sister, friend, and member of an outrageously beautiful Haitian American family.

Thank you for allowing me to join you on your health and birth journey.
